It is the mission of the Long Term Care & Consulting Academy to promote consultant pharmacy practice in health care institutions, long-term care facilities, home healthcare programs and any other area in which consultant pharmacists are needed. The academy shall focus on public understanding of consultant pharmacy through educational and networking opportunities.

Objectives

• To provide an overview of the services provided by MassMedLine to the residents of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
• To provide an overview of the programs available for access to prescription medications including state and government programs, private programs, patient assistance programs through manufacturers, and discount programs.
• Become familiar with www.medicare.gov and be able to choose a Medicare D plan based on patient’s current medications.
• Be able to determine if a prescribed medication is covered in a particular plan including any restrictions
• Become familiar with Medicare Part B/D medication coverage, Prescription Advantage benefits, dual eligible benefits, low income subsidy benefits
• To provide an interactive opportunity to work through actual case scenarios to develop a working plan to assist patients with these programs.
