Pharmacy Technician Resources

FFECTIVE April 6, 2018 No individual may serve as a pharmacy technician trainee without holding a valid Pharmacy Technician Trainee License from the Board. 
  • Pharmacy Technician Trainees employed prior to April 6, 2018 must complete an application and have it approved by July 1, 2018 to continue work in a pharmacy.
  • Pharmacy Technician Trainees hired on or after April 6, 2018 must obtain a Pharmacy Technician in Training License before working in a Pharmacy. 
  • Pharmacy Technicians in Training may begin work as soon as their license number is issued by the Board.
  • A Pharmacy Technician in Training License is good for one year from the date of issue.

Get Certified! The CPhT is the gold standard of credentialing for pharmacy technicians. PTCB® offers the CPhT credential to individuals who wish to distinguish themselves in the pharmacy technician field. PTCB’s certification program enables technicians to work more effectively with pharmacists to offer safe and effective patient care and service. Most employers prefer, and many require, their pharmacy technicians be PTCB CPhTs.

Already Certified? Pharmacy Technician Continuing Education Requirements

Certificants must complete a minimum of twenty (20) hours of continuing education (CE) during each two (2) year recertification cycle. Any CE hours earned after January 1, 2015 must be in pharmacy technician-specific subject matter. For recertification candidates, one (1) hour of the twenty (20) hours must be in the subject of pharmacy law and one (1) hour must be in the subject of patient safety.
